Brush Cleaning as Easy as 1-2-3

Your makeup brushes play a crucial role to your daily beauty regime. We all want that even flawless application yet we often neglect our brushes and tools by failing to clean them regularly. With as little as 5-10 minutes of your day you will see and feel the difference a quick wash can do! From being thrown in your purse to sitting on the restroom counter every day our brushes collect and grow bacteria on them; which in turn transfers to your make-up and ultimately your face (yes, a disaster waiting to happen!). Brushes also lose their bristles and softness when they are caked with old make up. Washing them once or twice a month can prevent future skin damage and in fact improve your favorite brushes performance (as if it just came out of its box!)

Here is a simple way you can do at home tonight! Now I know many of you have heard to use brush cleanser, gentle baby shampoo or even your own shampoo, but the best product for cleaning is REGULAR HAND SOAP! Hand soap kills the bacteria that are growing on your brushes because it’s an anti-bacterial cleaner, unlike shampoos and conditioners. Plus, don’t believe the myth it’s too aggressive for your brushes- it’s not true because most hand soaps are made gentle enough for us since we use them so often.

Use warm water to wet bristles one brush at a time, with hand soap rotate in circular movements on top of your palm. Once the bristles are clean and no color is washing off them, rinse with water and put them out to dry overnight. Brushes should have the handle propped up so that moisture does not seep into the handle and to ensure all water leaves the bristles. How easy was that? This simple step will leave you with soft and new like brushes that your skin will thank you for!
